The Election of 1800

Welcome Teachers

The following website reviews the election of one of the founding fathers of the United States: Thomas Jefferson. It contains background information for students in addition to a three day lesson plan to use for your classroom. Feel free to browse and use as much (or as little) for your classroom.

This unit is intended for the 8th grade classroom, but could easily be adapted and used in any high school history course. Enjoy!

The following Florida Sunshine State Standards will be met with this unit plan:

SS.8.A.1.2: Analyze charts, graphs, maps, photographs and timelines; analyze political cartoons; determine cause and effect.

SS.8.A.1.5: Identify, within both primary and secondary sources, the author, audience, format, and purpose of significant

historical documents.

SS.8.A.1.7: View historic events through the eyes of those who were there as shown in their art, writings, music, and artifacts.

SS.8.A.3.14: Explain major domestic and international economic, military, political, and socio-cultural events of Thomas Jefferson's presidency.
